Tell that to the 12 dead and the 50 injured ,the worst massacre in U.S. history. How many would he have killed/injured with a Glock or a shotgun?

re:Banning Assault rifles won't stop guys like this Tell that to the 12 dead and the 50 injured ,the worst massacre in U.S. history. How many would he have killed/injured with a Glock or a shotgun? You certainly have a propensity for saying stupid things. You can't tell anything to the dead. They're dead. You're completely out of touch on the issue if you think bans on these weapons would make any difference. Far more have been killed by weapons supposedly far less dangerous than AR-15's. In fact, far more people are killed every year by drunk drivers. Tens of thousands more. People were killed last night by a drunk driver. Why are you not as outraged by that as you are with this incident? And the NRA doesn't have to say anything. Their position has consistently been against the use of weapons to harm people.

Israelis have assault rifles in their homes and even carry them openly in the streets and even on the beach. It helps keep them safe. So I would have to say the problem lies not in the weapon but in the person. Just think how much better it would have been if there would have been some armed individuals in the theater which could have stopped him.

People love to think that if someone had a gun they could just shoot the bad guy dead. That works really well in TV and film. But in real life people get nervous, they panic, they err in judgment, or they freeze. And they miss - a lot. In the movies the shot is perfect - dead on to the forehead or the chest. The reality is that most shots would miss the intended target. The reason for that is pretty simple: the people in the theater (in this instance) are not trained to quickly and calmly react to sudden violent situations.

Having any kind of weapon is no guarantee the average person will respond appropriately, or correctly. The "lot of trained people" you speak of are in the extreme minority. In that theater there was likely no person trained to the level you are implying. Even if there was that still is no guarantee they will handle the situation correctly. Training is not a replacement for real world experience. Lots of pilots are trained to handle emergency aircraft situations. The pilots who flew that Airbus plane into the Atlantic were trained. Yet an extreme real world situation arose and they failed. Everyone died. The Israelis carrying assault weapons apparently didn't get your memo because a bus was blown up and it killed a lot of people.

Fact remains that just because everyone has a gun it doesn't mean they'll be able to draw and take out a bad guy(s).

Perhaps. Let me know if you still feel that way when an armed citizen starts shooting at a bad guy, but misses him and instead shoots your wife dead.

Amazing you just went from a ak to a bus and thats suppose to make us all feel better. Is your NRA oppose to the strict guns alread in the books too? Lets face it Congress will not do a damn thing to make those guns more difficult to purchase because they cant afford to lost all the $$$ to their campaign funds from the NRA.

Lets face it Congress will not do a damn thing to make those guns more difficult to purchase because they cant afford to lost all the $$$ to their campaign funds from the NRA. Huh? ? First, I didn't go from an AK to a bus. I made a relevant comparison. The thread is about AR-15 rifles, which are considered assault weapons. The poster commented that Israeli citizens carry assault weapons and things seeem to be just fine. I noted that might be the case but it doesn't support the argument that it prevents deranged people from doing what they intend to do. In Israel they blew up a bus. All the citizens carrying assualt wepaons couldn't stop that. Get it now? Second, it's not my NRA. I don't belong to the group, but I do have an idea of their positions. I do believe if you check it out you'll find that they are opposed to use of any weapon to commit a violent crime or intentionally harm an innocent person. It's not my fault that you can't understand that. And so your point is invalid. Also, in this case, the person legally purchased the weapon. But if he had obtained them illegally a ban wouldn't have made any difference, would it? Lastly, if you had any idea what you were talking about you'd know that the overwhelming majority of gun crimes do not involve assault weapons.
