Significant difference.
For major events where there's little or no room for error or failure, it's common to pre-record everything. It was still Beyonce's voice. Whether or not she actually sang it aloud doesn't change that it was her voice. And she wasn't getting an award that could launch her career. I would have preferred she fully sang the song but I'm not that bothered by this.
Milli Vanilli didn't use their own voices. In fact, if I recall neither were great singers. Only one of them had a pretty good voice. Certainly not so much that they would have received Grammy Awards and given recording contracts.

And Davey, just because you used the words "lip synch" doesn't mean you're on topic. In fact, your post is nothing more than an old guy leering at a young girl. It's not funny - it's creepy.

Unlike you, I answered muffin's question. You may think it's the same, but there are lots of people who won't agree with that. Personally, I wouldn't say she faked anything. She knows the words and the chords. Should she have sang it? Yes, that would have been nice. But it's not the first time singers have lip-synched.

- How do you know? Whitney Houston lip-synched at the '92 Super Bowl and no one knew it. If someone hadn't eventually leaked it no one ever would have known.

- I did. My understanding of that is it's a signal that she was singing live and needed to adjust the arrangement she was hearing in her ears in order to sing it correctly. I'm not a singer but that sounds plausible. If she was lip-syncing all along why do that? Again, I really don't think it's that big a deal and I really don’t know that it matters. It's apparently a fairly routine thing at specific high level events. I think this excerpt from an article sums it up very well:
"What I do know is that the pressure put on performers to be perfect live is unrealistic, especially in a setting such as Mondays: very, very cold temperatures that can play havoc with vocal chords and nerves that can trip the finest artist up. When an artist does sing live and muffles it, such as Christina Aguilera did at the Super Bowl a few years ago, they never hear the end of it. When they lip-sync to their own voice so there won’t be any mistakes, they get criticized for that too."

You haven't been right once. Anyone who was watching saw her take the earpiece out. Question is, why do you care so much?
