IMO, the classification of sexual offenders needs to be changed. Currently, as I understand it, there are only two. A person is labeled either "Predator" or "Offender".
I don't dispute that the law was broken. It was. But if I were the 18 year old girl, I wouldn't have taken the Plea Deal either. I'd take my chances in court. She was offered no jail time, if she pled guilty to a felony, which would result in her being classified for the rest of her life. IMO, her relationship with the younger girl shouldn't affect her for the rest of her life, which would be the result of her accepting the deal.

When I was 18 the term jailbait was spoken of often. We all knew what an underage kid would git us if we were stupid enough to go there.

Obviously this 18 year old has not learned much, so yes, lower the hammer, that should cause some significant awareness of actions have consequences. Nothing else seems to have worked with this 18 year old. |

If every 17 year old kid that fragged his 15 year old high school girlfriend was locked up, they'd have to build more jails just to house horny teenagers.

Labeling her as a sex offender for the rest of her life is too harsh, IMO. That's why I believe the offender/predator laws need to be revisited. |

If that relationship was ongoing before she turned 18 (which it sounds like it was) and the younger girl's parents lept on it when she turned 18, then he punishment should be something less than sex offender. |

The fact that it is a same sex relationship should have no bearing on the result. Making it a GLBT issue may backfire for the girl.
